During the book launch, Ilyaz will discuss the urgent message of his first book, Dit is AI. De valse belofte van kunstmatige intelligentie.
In Dit is AI, Trouw columnist and podcast maker Ilyaz Nasrullah challenges some of the most persistent myths surrounding artificial intelligence. He clearly explains why AI fails to live up to the enormous expectations placed on it, why he believes it will continue to do so in the future, and why its uncritical use can be harmful to people and society.
Contrary to what the industry claims, AI is neither intelligent nor understanding, nor is it potentially all-powerful. Behind the systems presented to us as “intelligent” lies a world of poor science, flawed technology, inflated expectations, financial speculation, naïve policymakers, affected citizens, exploited data workers and ecological damage.
The program will feature special guests:
Cynthia Liem (speaker) – AI-researcher at TU Delft and classical pianist
Nadia Benaissa (speaker) – Policy advisor AI at Bits of Freedom
Felienne Hermans (speaker) – Professor of Computer Science Education at VU Amsterdam
Connor Clerx (moderator) – Tech journalist at BNR Nieuwsradio
Thursday, 24th September 19:30 - 21:00
The event will be in Dutch.
